From the end of April 2021, Optometry Giving Sight UK is closing and will be handing over its operations to Vision Aid Overseas. OGS will continue funding projects to address vision impairment from its North American office.

OGS have released the following statement:

“Dear Supporter

Thank you for your support of Optometry Giving Sight United Kingdom. Over the last few years, OGS UK has partnered with Vision Aid Overseas due to a reduction of the OGS global offices in order to continue our important work of providing access to affordable eyeglasses and eye care. We wanted to inform you that OGS UK will officially be closing and will transition all support and services to VAO. OGS will continue to fund domestic and international projects from our North American offices in Colorado and Calgary.

I would encourage you to contact Vision Aid Overseas on [email protected] to discuss continuing your support.

Anne Marie Hand, MPH

Executive Director, North America.”

We are really proud of our partnership with OGS. Between 2015 and 2018 OGS worked with VAO to address the shortage of skilled eye care workers in Ghana, Ethiopia and Zambia, by providing training courses to university optometry students. Since 2019 OGS also provided funds to deliver our global programmes, providing eye care in Ethiopia, Ghana, Sierra Leone and Zambia.

Nicola Chevis, CEO of Vision Aid Overseas, said:

“Our two charities have similar missions and programmes to provide eyecare for the people who need it most, so working together has always made sense. As such we will continue working with OGS on international projects and we really value the support they have given us so far.”
